Nepal hat mich gelehrt, dass die Natur der größte Lehrmeister ist. Wochenlang self-supported auf über 4.000 Metern, mit nichts als dem Rauschen des Windes und der rauen Bergwelt vor der Kamera. Die Schlammschlachten im Monsunregen, das geduldige Lächeln der Sherpa-Familien, das Dal Bhat nach einem 10-Stunden-Marsch – das sind die Momente, die mich fundamental verändert haben. Hier habe ich verstanden, was Entschleunigung wirklich bedeutet. Völlig unerwartet kam für mich dabei der extreme Kontrast im Süden des Landes: die feuchte, dichte Wildnis des subtropischen Dschungels, die ein völlig anderes, wildes Gesicht Nepals zeigt. Nepal taught me that nature is the greatest teacher. Weeks self-supported above 4,000 meters, with nothing but the sound of the wind and the rugged mountains in front of the camera. The mud battles in monsoon rain, the patient smiles of Sherpa families, the Dal Bhat after a 10-hour march – these are the moments that fundamentally changed me. Here I understood what slowing down truly means. Completely unexpected for me was the extreme contrast in the south of the country: the humid, dense wilderness of the subtropical jungle, showing a completely different, wild face of Nepal.

Die georgische Gastfreundschaft ist legendär – man wird stets als Gast behandelt, als käme man direkt von Gott. Die Küche, der Wein, die Berge im Großen Kaukasus: Georgien ist für mich das geheimste Juwel Europas. Georgia is a land full of contradictions that complement each other in a fascinating way. The medieval monasteries cling to dramatic rock faces while Tbilisi pulses with the most modern nightlife in Eastern Europe. Georgian hospitality is legendary – you are always treated as a guest, as if sent directly by God. The cuisine, the wine, the mountains of the Greater Caucasus: Georgia is for me the most secret jewel of Europe.

Die blauen Kuppeln von Samarkand, die unendliche Weite der Sandwüste Kyzylkum, die labyrinthartigen Altstädte von Chiwa und Buchara – Usbekistan ist ein Ort, an dem Geschichte so greifbar wird, dass man meint, sie berühren zu können. Die monumentale Architektur mit ihren leuchtenden, türkisfarbenen Fliesen entfaltet eine magische Wirkung, die mich sofort in ein Märchen aus 1001 Nacht versetzt hat. Hier, im Herzen der alten Seidenstraße, trifft sowjetische Vergangenheit auf persische Pracht und zentralasiatisches Feuer. Ein Land, das mich schlicht sprachlos gemacht hat. The blue domes of Samarkand, the infinite expanse of the Kyzylkum sand desert, the labyrinth-like old towns of Khiva and Bukhara – Uzbekistan is a place where history becomes so tangible that you feel you can touch it. The monumental architecture with its glowing, turquoise tiles unfolds a magical effect that immediately transported me into a tale from 1001 Nights. Here, in the heart of the ancient Silk Road, Soviet past meets Persian splendor and Central Asian fire. A country that simply left me speechless.

Auf der anderen Seite die spürbaren sozialen Gegensätze und die raue Wildnis der Natur. Es fasziniert durch die Koexistenz von unberührtem Urwald, kolonialer Geschichte, gewaltigen Bergschluchten und karibischen Traumkulissen. Mexico is a country of extreme contrasts. On the one hand, the deeply relaxed culture, the incredible diversity of the cuisine – where fresh avocados and the best guacamole in the world are part of the daily lifestyle – and the indigenous mysticism. On the other hand, the tangible social disparities and the rugged wilderness of nature. It fascinates with the coexistence of untouched jungle, colonial history, massive mountain canyons, and dreamy Caribbean settings.

Das Land hat über 17.000 Inseln – eine unfassbare Vielfalt auf kleinstem Raum. Die pure Naturkraft, die hier zu spüren ist, zwischen dichten, jahrtausendealten Regenwäldern, spektakulären Vulkanlandschaften und artenreichen Korallenriffen, ist schlicht überwältigend. Indonesia is a country of extreme contrasts. On Bali you are enveloped by spiritual tranquility and temple fragrances, while on other islands you dive deep into the untamed wilderness. The country has over 17,000 islands – an unbelievable diversity in a small space. The pure power of nature that can be felt here, between dense, millennia-old rainforests, spectacular volcanic landscapes, and species-rich coral reefs, is simply overwhelming.

Thailand war meine erste große Reise nach Südostasien – und damit mein erster, prägender Kulturschock. Das Chaos von Bangkok gefolgt von der Stille eines Mönchsklosters in Chiang Mai, die goldenen Tempel, die buddhistische Gelassenheit und die unvergleichliche Küche haben mich gleichzeitig überwältigt und beruhigt. Neben dieser tiefen Kultur fasziniert das Land durch seine landschaftliche Perfektion: Thailand besitzt für mich mit die schönsten Strände der Welt. Unvergesslich geprägt hat mich dabei dieses absolute Freiheitsgefühl, einfach mit dem Motorroller über die Inseln zu jagen, mitten durch den dichten Dschungel zu cruisen und auf eigene Faust immer wieder neue, versteckte Traumstrände zu entdecken. Es ist ein Land, das einem zeigt, wie unterschiedlich Menschen leben können – und wie viel man davon lernen kann. Thailand was my first major trip to Southeast Asia – and with it, my first, formative culture shock. The chaos of Bangkok followed by the silence of a monastery in Chiang Mai, the golden temples, the Buddhist serenity, and the incomparable cuisine overwhelmed and calmed me at the same time. In addition to this deep culture, the country fascinates with its scenic perfection: Thailand has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world for me. Unforgettably, I was shaped by this absolute feeling of freedom – simply chasing across the islands on a scooter, cruising right through the dense jungle, and discovering new, hidden dream beaches on my own. It is a country that shows you how differently people can live – and how much you can learn from it.
